Rugs — the easiest way to warm a room
A good rug does more than soften a floor. It defines a space, absorbs sound, brings texture and pattern where the rest of the room has restraint. Our edit is small but considered: handwoven jute, vintage-washed Persian runners, natural wool, and the occasional cotton dhurrie.
We don't stock machine-made rugs. Everything in this collection is woven or knotted by hand — most by weaving cooperatives in West Bengal, Turkey, and Morocco — using methods that haven't really changed in centuries. The result is rugs that age beautifully, repair well, and don't lose their feel.
How to choose the right size
- Living room: the front legs of your sofa should sit on the rug. For most UK sofas, that means 160 x 230cm minimum.
- Bedroom: a runner each side of the bed (80 x 200cm) or one large rug under the bottom two-thirds.
- Hallway: runners 60–80cm wide, length to suit. Leave 30cm of floor showing each side.
- Dining room: rug should extend 60cm past the table edge so chairs stay on it when pulled out.
Care
Vacuum regularly (not too aggressively on the fringes). Spot clean spills immediately with a damp cloth. Rotate the rug 180° once a year for even wear. Avoid direct sunlight if you want the colours to stay deep.
Rugs ship UK-wide via tracked courier. Larger rugs (over 6kg) take 3–5 working days. Free delivery on orders over £75.
